The majority of people think more should be done to improve awareness of dementia, according to a survey conducted by inthenews.co.uk.
Nine in ten people polled said that awareness of the condition, which affects about 700,000 people in the UK, is too low.
The poll also revealed large support for an increase in funding for research into dementia.
Campaigners have warned that current funding levels are too low, especially when compared to the levels received by scientists studying other diseases.
Over nine in ten respondents (95 per cent) said funding should be increased.
On whether people with dementia should be able given more help to stay at home, 71 per cent agreed compared to 29 per cent who did not.
And when asked if the government does enough for older people in general, just one in five said yes.
