NHS Partners: Patients will benefit

Thursday, 10 Apr 2008 11:46
Patients benefit from independent sector involvement in the NHS, according to the NHS Partners Network (NHSPN).

The network is an alliance of independent healthcare providers - both commercial and not-for-profit - commissioned by the NHS to provide elective and diagnostic care to NHS patients.

It has welcomed the Department of Health's announcement that three new independent sector treatment centres have been given the go-ahead.

NHSPN director David Worskett said the centres will bring "real patient benefits in the regions concerned and increase the amount of genuine choice available within the NHS".

He added: "We also look forward to decisions on the remaining four schemes as soon as possible.

"'Local ownership is important and we believe all the schemes deserve - and will have - strong local support based on putting the interests of patients first." End of story
