NHS Employers: NHS is good overall

The NHS remains a good place to work despite a number of problems for staff, according to NHS Employers.

The organisation, which represents NHS trusts on workforce issues, commented after a poll on NHS staff satisfaction by the Healthcare Commission.

This survey revealed problems with the number of assaults on staff, how valued employees felt and poor communication.

A number of positive factors were highlighted however, which the NHS Confederation described as "encouraging".

Alastair Henderson, acting director of NHS Employers, said: "At the same time it is clear that we need to do more in areas such as bullying and harassment and violence.

"Building on our recent campaign to help trusts tackle bullying at work, we will work with the NHS trade unions to understand more clearly why some trusts perform better than others in this area and to share the knowledge of the best."

He added that NHS Employers would help trusts to make staff feel more valued.
