Children's Society: Issues must be addressed

Thursday, 24 Apr 2008 11:11
Mental health and wellbeing issues in children must be addressed, according to the chief executive of the Children's Society.

Bob Reitemeier said that these issues have not received the attention they need.

His comments follow a report from the charity that uncovered concerns about the wellbeing of the young from both adults and children themselves.

"There is a growing recognition of the true cost of neglecting children's mental health and wellbeing," Mr Reitemeier said.

"Too often mental health and wellbeing have been dismissed as being of little importance but there is now an understanding that if we want to give children a better childhood these matters must be addressed.

"We now need to translate this growing concern into action and investment in the necessary support services." End of story
