Alzheimer's Society: UK should be ashamed

The Alzheimer's Society has said the rising cost of care for elderly and disabled people in their own homes is a national disgrace.

The charity's chief executive Neil Hunt said the report from Coalition on Charging had exposed the "shocking truth" of social care charges hitting vulnerable people the hardest.

"There are 700,000 people living with dementia in the UK and this will rise to over a million people in less than 20 years," Mr Hunt said.

"What sort of society do we live in where people are forced to make huge sacrifices to pay for essential care?"
