Tickets for Beijing Olympics go on sale

Sunday, 15 Apr 2007 19:56
The 29th Olympic Games will begin on August 8th next year
The organisers of the 2008 Beijing Olympics have announced that millions of "very affordable" tickets for the games have now gone on sale.

Three-quarters of the tickets have been reserved exclusively for Chinese residents, with the rest being sold through countries' respective national Olympic committees.

From now until the end of September 2.2 million domestic tickets are available to buy, with prices ranging from 30 yuan (£2) for preliminary events, to 5,000 yuan (£325) for the games' opening and closing ceremonies.

"To offer the largest number of people the opportunity to watch the Olympic Games, [the Beijing Organising Committee] will limit the number of tickets each individual may purchase," a statement said.

"Each person may only purchase one ticket for the opening and closing ceremonies.

"Individuals are limited to two tickets for high demand competition sessions [and] individuals will be limited to three-to-five tickets for other competition sessions according to demand for those sessions."

The remainder of tickets for the 2008 Olympics, which will begin next August, will go on sale in October.
