Fernando Verdasco describes "dream" victory for Spain in Davis Cup
Fernando Verdasco described helping Spain to victory over Argentina in the Davis Cup final in Mar del Plata as being "a dream come true".
The world number 16 beat Jose Acasuso on home soil to seal a 3-1 win for the visitors, who triumphed despite the enforced absence of world number one Rafael Nadal through injury.
And afterwards, Verdasco said the win ranked as his greatest achievement in the sport.
"It's like a dream come true and maybe the most beautiful day of my life," he said.
"I tried my best all year to win the Davis Cup and I am happy for everyone in Spain."
The fourth rubber against Acasuso on day three of the tie saw Verdasco come back from 2-1 down in sets to seal a memorable and emotional win.
And he said: "In the Davis Cup, you have to fight to the death and you always have to keep your hope of winning.
"This mental strength helped me win the match."
The victory is Spain's first Davis Cup title on foreign soil and their third overall after previous wins in 2000 and 2004.
