Ana Ivanovic advanced into the last 16 at Indian Wells
Top seed Ana Ivanovic eased past Italy's Tathiana Garbin 6-3 6-0 to advance into the last 16 at Indian Wells.

This year's Australian open runner-up will now play Francesca Schiavone, and claims her performance is improving all the time.

"I'm definitely better," the world number two said after her victory today.

"That's very positive, and I finished the match strong and did some things I was practicing and working on, so I'm happy about that."

In the other games in the tournament, sixth seed Marion Bartoli battled past Germany's Angelique Kerber 6-3 7-6 (7-3).

Bartoli squandered seven match points having led 5-1 in the final set before finally claiming victory.

"Sometimes it happens. Even if you try to close out in the match it's not happening," the French player said.

"She had some luck on a few shots - she made a dropshot that she will never make on another match point. It happens."

Bartoli will now face two-time winner of the tournament Lindsay Davenport in the next round.

Davenport had to overcome a tough match against Taiwan's Chan Yung-Jan to set up the tie.

The 31-year-old American eventually claimed victory 6-4 5-7 6-2 in the closet match of the round.

Meanwhile, 12th seed Vera Zvonareva will play Australia's Casey Dellacqua following her 6-0 6-3 win over fellow Russian Galina Voskoboeva.

And Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues will go up against third seed Jelena Jankovic after her 6-3 7-5 victory over Evgeniya Rodina.
