History
Charlton Athletic FC was founded in 1905 when a group of youth clubs in the south-east of London clubbed together to form the Addicks.
Entering the Football League proper for the first time in 1921, they went on to become one of the most consistent First Division teams in the years leading up to the First World War. Success continued after the war with consecutive FA Cup finals in 1946 and 1947, winning the latter against Burnley.
But the next three decades saw the club drop through the divisions, attendances dwindling all the time. The club entered financial administration in 1984, forcing them to leave the Valley the following year. They resided at Selhurst Park and Upton Park for seven years, before finally returning to a new and improved Valley in 1992.
They became one of the Premiership's yoyo clubs in the late 1990s, before Alan Curbishley helped establish them as top flight regulars from 2000/01 until this past season saw them drop down to the Championship.
