Wolleaston double puts Cambridge in play-off final

Cambridge United will be going to Wembley
Two goals from Rob Wolleaston ensured Cambridge United will be going to Wembley after they beat Burton Albion 2-1 in the second leg of the Blue Square Premier play-off semi-final.

Wolleaston opened the scoring in the first minute with a tap in after Kevin Poole parried Lee McEvilly's early strike onto the post.

The ball fell into the path of the Cambridge player and he could not miss from one yard out.

It was the perfect start for the home side following the 2-2 draw at Burton on Friday but their advantage did not last long when Daryl Clare nodded in a simple header from a corner.

The game continued at lightning pace with both sides looking to gain an advantage and Wolleaston nearly had a second when his shot was blocked at close range after good work from McEvilly.

Cambridge nearly took the lead before half time when a mazy run from Magno Vieira resulted in a cut back to Paul Carden whose 20-yard effort was tipped over by Poole.

The second half began much as the first ended with both sides looking to gain an advantage.

Vieira had a header saved by Poole before Dave Farrell crossed for Shaun Harrad who could only head over the bar for the away side.

But in the 62nd minute Wolleaston was there again to give the Us the advantage.

The midfielder connected with a left wing cross to float the ball over the head of Poole and into the far corner giving the home team a slender advantage.

Burton came back strongly and forced three corners but could not get the ball over the Cambridge line leaving the home side to celebrate victory and a place against Exeter in the Blue Square Premier play-off final at Wembley on May 18th.
