Phil Taylor insists he is not satisfied with 14 world championship titles and is already looking forward to defending his latest PDC event win next year.

After smashing Dutch arrows star Raymond van Barneveld in the PDC World Championship final at Alexandra Palace last night, Taylor told Sky Sports that he was "absolutely made up".

The Stoke-on-Trent darts player lost 7-6 to 'Barney' in the 2007 final after being three sets up - a match some regard as the greatest ever game in the sport's history.

But Taylor managed a staggering average of 110.94 as he raced to a comprehensive 7-1 win over his Dutch rival last night.

"Once I started and I was playing well I thought, 'Don't stop now, don't give him a chance'," he said.

"As soon as you relax with Raymond he seems to kick in, he gains on your weakness so I thought keep hitting him and keep hitting him because he's like Ricky Hatton and Joe Calzaghe that's what you have to do to him."

Taylor continued: "It's very cruel but that's what you have to do.

"They are such good players nowadays that what you have to do when you are on stage is put them under pressure and keep them under pressure."

He added: "Now I have to concentrate on defending my world title because there is nothing more important than that."

Meanwhile, former winner Martin Adams faced a scare in the second round of the Lakeside World Darts Championship tonight after edging out a 3-2 victory over qualifier Dave Chisnall.

The Englishman, known as 'Wolfie', won the final-set decider 5-3 in legs after the qualifier missed chances at a double to make it 4-4.
