Juve admit Gerrard interest

Sunday, 21 Jan 2007 14:40
Gerrard is Juve's top target for their expected return to Serie A next season
Juventus have revealed they are keen on signing Liverpool star Steven Gerrard in the summer.

The Italian giants look set to be planning for their return to Serie A with the capture of the England ace for a reported £30 million.

Juventus are hoping Gerrard, 26, will partner veteran Pavel Nedved in central midfield if they gain promotion from Serie B following their relegation last year for match-fixing.

Alessio Secco, the club's director of sport, admitted he was a huge fan of the midfielder.

"Gerrard is a great player and has been a dream for us for some time," Secco told the News of the World newspaper.

Gerrard has twice been linked with moves to Chelsea and came closing to signing for the Premiership champions in 2005.

The skipper looks likely to stay at Anfield with the Reds just five points behind second-placed Chelsea after yesterday's 2-0 win over the Blues.

Juventus went back to the top of Serie B yesterday after Alessandro Del Piero inspired the Turin club to a 4-2 win over Bari.

The 32-year-old World Cup winner scored one goal and set up two others to put Juventus two points ahead of Napoli.

Didier Deschamps' side have been linked with Manchester United duo Cristiano Ronaldo and Gabriel Heinze in recent weeks.
