Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is set to start spending some of Sheikh Mansour's £200 million transfer kitty in January.
City will try and land long-term targets David Villa of Valencia and AC Milan's Kaka, but are prepared to wait until the summer if they have to.
More likely recruits in the New Year are Chelsea's Wayne Bridge and Portsmouth's Lassana Diarra. However, Pompey are reluctant to let Diarra leave and he could cost as much as £16 million as the south coast club know City have limitless wealth and are therefore demanding more for the midfielder.
Chelsea are hoping to land Tottenham's talented youngster Giovanni Dos Santos in January. The Mexican has failed to break into the Spurs first-team since his summer arrival and could link up with former team-mates Deco and Juliano Belletti at Stamford Bridge.
CSKA Moscow striker Vagner Love is set to turn down a move to Everton in favour of Real Madrid.
The Spanish giants could also steal another Premier League striker away in January. With Ruud van Nistelrooy out for the season the club are in search of another forward and Wigan's Amr Zaki has made the list of potential recruits.
Further trouble could be on the horizon for Wigan after manager Steve Bruce claimed he still has dreams of one day managing Newcastle United.
Bruce could be a candidate to take charge at St James' Park if Mike Ashley can ever find a buyer for the club.
