West Ham manager Alan Curbishley is delighted to keep hold of his left-back
West Ham full-back George McCartney has signed a new five-year contract at Upton Park.
The Northern Ireland international had been the subject of a £4.5 million bid from
Sunderland earlier this month, and it looked as if his future lay away from the Hammers.
Instead the 27-year-old, who has 19 caps for Northern Ireland, has signed a new deal which keeps him at Upton Park until 2013.
McCartney signed for West Ham from Sunderland in 2006 in a four-year deal worth £1 million and became a regular at left-back, making 60 appearances for the Hammers, scoring one goal.
McCartney had stated his desire to stay at West Ham last week, in the face of an offer from his former club Sunderland.
"I would like to stay at West Ham," he said. "I have no desire to leave. When clubs show an interest in you it is flattering but I have enjoyed my time at West Ham and I have played in every league game for them since February last year.
"But its really up to the two clubs and what West Ham want to see happen. If they choose to sell me then its up to both clubs to agree a fee and well see if that happens but I have no desire to move."
