Denmark legend Michael Laudrup will not be the new manager of West Ham after he agreed to take charge of Russian giants Spartak Moscow.
The 44-yeaer-old former Real Madrid and Barcelona star was expected to be interviewed by West Ham officials today, but instead he went to Russia to discuss terms and has signed a one-and-a-half year contract with Spartak.
"Spartak are the best-known Russian club and millions support this team all over the world," Laudrup told uefa.com. "This situation can be compared with Spain, where we have Real (Madrid) and Barcelona.
"However, the difference is that Spartak haven't won the domestic league for a long time. This team has to be at the top, while also achieving good results on the European stage. I think Spartak have a good future."
West Ham have already interviewed Italian duo Roberto Donadoni and Gianfranco Zola as possible replacements for Alan Curbishley, who resigned last week after becoming disillusioned with the club's transfer dealings.
Current Croatia coach Slaven Bilic is still the bookies favourite to become the new West Ham manager, but the former Hammers star has insisted he will only comment on his future after his team's World Cup qualifier against England on Wednesday night.
