Middlesbrough fined £20,000 for poor discipline in 2007/08
Middlesbrough have been hit with a £20,000 fine, with an additional £30,000 suspended, after they finished with more yellow cards than any other club last season.

Gareth Southgate's men accrued 85 yellow cards throughout the season - nine more than the second-highest total acquired by Bolton Wanderers (76) - in the Premier League in 2007/08.

Their worst individual offender across the season was George Boateng, who picked up nine yellow cards.

Gary O'Neil, David Wheater and Luke Young all collected eight cards each.

Boro also had two red cards during the season, Jeremie Aliadiere at Liverpool and Mido at Arsenal, and finished above only Blackburn Rovers, who had 74 yellow cards and six red cards, in the fair play table.

Outside the Premier League, Burnley of the Championship were fined £10,000 with a further £10,000 fine suspended until the end of next season.

In League Two, Darlington were fined £3,000 and a further £5,000 suspended for next season, while a suspended fine of £3,000 was issued to Macclesfield Town.
