Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun has revealed he may seek a move away from Anfield in the January transfer window if he does not get more playing time.

The Israeli international has seen his time on the pitch restricted this season since the arrival of Albert Riera in the summer.

Despite scoring 11 goals in his first season with the Reds, Benayoun has only started two of the last ten games and is becoming frustrated by his role on the bench.

Benayoun says that if he continues to be named amongst the substitutes then he may have to look elsewhere in order to secure regular first-team football.

He told Israel's Channel Five TV: "If the situation remains the same over the next few months, I will not want to continue as a Liverpool player.

"I hope it changes as I want to stay and prove myself but it won't be easy."

Benayoun joined Liverpool from West Ham United last summer for £5 million but although he has only been at the club for 18 months the midfielder says increased playing time remains his priority.

He added: "I always wanted to prove myself good enough for Liverpool, and I thought I did well last season to contribute so many goals and assists.

"But there seems to be more competition for places this time, and if I continue to be on the sidelines, I would not want to stay, even though it is Liverpool."

Benayoun thinks his appearances have been restricted this season because manager Rafael Benitez does not want to change the winning formula that has lifted the Reds to second in the league.
