Andrew Johnson demanded move to Fulham, David Moyes claims
Everton manager David Moyes has revealed he was forced into selling Andrew Johnson against his will because the player requested to leave.
The England striker is due to complete his move to
Fulham this week after agreeing terms and passing a medical at Craven Cottage.
Speculation had suggested the reason for Johnson's move was either down to a disagreement with Moyes or his desire to move to London for family reasons.
And while the Toffees boss shed no more light on these rumours, he simply confirmed it was Johnson's decision to leave Everton despite enjoying a decent run of form in his two years on Merseyside.
"Why did I sell AJ? It was AJ's choice," Moyes told the club's official website.
"He decided that he wanted to move on."
Moyes also confirmed he would be looking to make more signings this summer in a bid to bolster his squad.
Everton are set to be involved in the Uefa Cup, as well as both domestic trophies and the Premier League this season, and the manager believes he will need to add quality players to the mix in order to compete in all competitions.
"There is money to spend," said Moyes.
"I'm not going to accept second best and I want to get the best players in.
"I'm expecting to play over 60 games next year. I'm expecting to get to cup finals, I'm expecting to have a long run in the Uefa Cup and I'm expecting to do well in the league.
"So, I'm going to need lots of cover and lots of players."
