Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin has been ruled out of action for six weeks after suffering an ankle injury.
The Ukrainian forward had to be carried off the pitch at Liverpool's Melwood training ground after sustaining the injury with manager Rafa Benitez reportedly enlisted to help.
And the striker is to be sidelined for six weeks after confirmation that he will require an operation to repair ligament damage.
A statement on the Anfield side's website confirmed the former Bayer Leverkusen star's predicted layoff, adding: "The club have now learned that the problem is worse than first thought."
Voronin is likely to miss up to five games of Liverpool's league campaign including next Wednesday's trip to Upton Park to face West Ham.
Known as 'The Crow', the Ukraine international will almost certainly miss the first leg of Liverpool's Champions League clash against Italian champions Internazionale next month.
Voronin has scored four goals in 21 appearances for the Reds, three of those in the Premier League, since joining on a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen.
Also missing from the squad for tomorrow's FA Cup fourth round tie against non-league hopefuls Havant and Waterlooville will be defender Alvaro Arbeloa, who is suffering with an abdominal injury, while centre-back Daniel Agger is still at least two weeks away from returning to action after fracturing his foot.
