Disappointment for Britain's relay team
The United States took both the men's and women's 4x400m relay golds in the Bird's Nest.

The American men led from the front throughout, building a sizeable lead to assure them another gold.

Silver in the men's relay went to the Bahamas while Russia took bronze. Britain's runners finished in fourth place, having picked up two spots going into the final 400m.

The women's race saw Great Britain finish fifth after Kelly Sotherton, running second, was unable to stand the pace all the way round the track.

Again it was the US who won, in 3mins 18.54secs, with Russia taking silver and Jamaica the bronze.
