Kenenisa Bekele breaks Olympic record
Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia set a new Olympic record in the final of the men's 5,000m, breaking the 13-minute barrier for the first time.
The world record holder lopped eight seconds off the previous best time, set in 1984, to take the gold.
Kenyan runners Eliud Kipchoge and Edwin Cheruiyot Soi took silver and bronze places, the latter raising his game to complete a season's best time.
Bernard Lagat, world champion, finished ninth.
