Roger Federer loses out in Beijing
Roger Federer slumped to another miserable defeat at the Olympics, succumbing to American James Blake 6-4 7-6 (7-2) in Beijing.
The Swiss star, who has won 12 Grand Slams in his career, looked uncertain and error-prone as he lost out to a man he had previously beaten eight times in a row.
Blake, the only American left in the men's singles draw, had to fight in the second set after losing a 3-0 advantage.
He came through thanks to another lacklustre performance from Federer, whose reign as world number one on the ATP tour is expected to end on Monday.
Federer is revealing an unhappy side to his personality which tennis fans, only familiar with his mood when he is winning, are less familiar with.
"It's ridiculous that we're playing maybe 11 matches in seven days, to be honest," he said afterwards.
