Scott tops Texas leaderboard after impressive second day

Scott leads in Texas
Australia's Adam Scott hit four birdies in a row to race to the top of the leaderboard on the second day of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship in Texas.

The 27-year-old went into the day lying just one shot off the lead, held by Americans Ryan Moore and Eric Axley, and soon established his authority on the course.

While it looked like a bogey on hole number 14 could have halted his momentum, Scott showed resilience to then hit a birdie on the fourth after the break, enabling him to finish on a three-under-par 67.

Commenting on his performance, the player told reporters: "It was a fast start but after that was a bit of a battle, a fair bit of scrambling going on.

"The conditions were tricky. It was hard to hit fairways and hard to hit greens.

"It would have been nice to get a couple more (birdies) after my start this morning, but I'm pretty happy. I'm still in good shape."

He is joined on the leaderboard by fellow Australians Mark Hensby and Matthew Goggin, both lying just one stroke behind Scott, with the latter having come back from a double-bogey on the ninth to go around in 69.

Moore is also in contention for the tournament title, though his five second-day birdies were undone by five dropped shots, while Justin Leonard is still in with a shout.
