Button thinks Honda will perform much better in 2009
Jenson Button says he is more optimistic about Honda's chances in Formula One next season than he has been for the last two seasons.
The Briton has struggled in recent times since achieving his first grand prix victory in 2006. However, he feels the new rules could help his team get closer to the front of the field.
Button thinks the new rules, which include aerodynamic regulations, the return of slick tyres and KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) which stores kinetic energy into power that can be used elsewhere will level the playing field.
With all of the teams having to adapt to the new regulations Honda may be able to capitalise and get themselves back towards the front of the grid Button certainly thinks this is possible.
He said: "The last two years have been very difficult for all of us, but I think we have a very strong team and we have a real passion for racing, so things will come good for us.
"I've already seen what is happening with the car for next year, and it looks very positive.
"It feels more like 2006, when I got three podiums and I won my first race. So it's all very positive, and I'm hoping to get some more wins next year."
Button was 18th in the drivers' standings last season while the team was second last. In both standings it was only the drivers from minnows Force India who were below Button and Honda.
