Super Aguri get go-ahead for Barcelona GP

Super Aguri to race in Barcelona, although future remains unclear
The Super Aguri Formula One team have been given the go-ahead to race at this weekend's Barcelona Grand Prix despite their ongoing financial problems.

Doubts had been raised over the Japanese marque's involvement in Spain after a potential takeover hit the buffers earlier this month.

Magma Group - controlled by the same investors who are in charge of Dubai International Capital (DIC), the group showing interest in Liverpool FC – were expected to buy out the cash-strapped team.

But DIC pulled the plug on the deal, leaving Super Aguri short of capital and with their future in doubt.

Nevertheless, the team travelled to Barcelona earlier this week with a view to taking part in the practice sessions today.

And the latest development has seen Super Aguri owner Aguri Suzuki confirm that their future is safe for this weekend at least, although he has as yet refused to confirm they will have the financial backing to complete the season.

The team confirmed that "discussions regarding investment are ongoing", but said the matter of financial negotiations is "confidential" and further details could not be provided for legal reasons.

"We would like to thank our team partners, suppliers, our fans and colleagues in the media for their continuing patience and support, and we look forward to our weekend at the Barcelona Grand Prix," the official statement concluded.

Super Aguri are one of three teams on the F1 grid still without a constructors' world championship point so far this season.

Honda - who also supply the engines for Super Aguri - and new team Force India are the other two outfits still waiting to get off the mark.End of story
