Raikkonen recovered from a gearbox failure in the morning session
Kimi Raikkonen recovered from a poor first practice to post the fastest time of the day in the second session on Friday, ahead of the Turkish grand prix.

The Finn suffered a gearbox failure in the morning session, causing him to finish bottom of the time sheets, and although he was not completely satisfied with the setup of his Ferrari he was still able to go fastest in the afternoon.

After team-mate Felipe Massa had finished quickest in the first session, Raikkonen's performance capped another good day for the world championship-leading Ferrari team.

Having won two of the last three races Raikkonen is confident he will be able to add to his drivers' world championship lead in Istanbul.

He said: "We lost valuable time this morning, but we still have enough data to analyse so that we can be ready to tackle the rest of the weekend."

Massa believes he will provide tough competition for his team-mate having had success at the circuit over the last two seasons. His third placed finish in the second practice session shows he has certainly got speed and consistency.

The Brazilian said: "I feel comfortable on this track and I think I can be very competitive […] in the race: it would be fantastic to win again here, after having done it for the past two years."

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton split the two Ferrari's in the second session and the Briton expects to have a strong race as he looks for his first win since the season opener in Australia.

Hamilton said: "This circuit is constantly evolving which is challenging but also enjoyable. Overall I am pleased with our initial pace and consistency."End of story
