Annan Athletic replace Gretna in Scottish Football League
Annan Athletic have been elected to the Scottish Football League to replace Gretna.

At a special general meeting of the Scottish Football League at Hampden Park, which featured all 29 members, Annan Athletic won the vote ahead of the four other clubs who applied for the spot - Cove Rangers, Edinburgh City, Preston Athletic and Spartans.

Annan, nicknamed the Galabankies after the name of their stadium, are based in the Dumfries and Galloway region in the east of Scotland and have been in existence as a club since 1942.

They will take their place in the Scottish Third Division from the beginning of the 2008/09 season.

Gretna were forced to resign from the league after financial difficulties forced the club to fold.

They were relegated from the Scottish Premier League at the end of last season but were unable to find the finances to keep the club afloat after their main benefactor, Brooks Mileson, withdrew his funding.End of story
