Portsmouth unveil plans for new 36,000 all-seater stadium
Portsmouth Football Club have unveiled detailed plans for their proposed new 36,000 all-seater stadium to replace Fratton Park.
The new ground will be built in the naval dockyards area of the city and will prompt Pompey to leave their traditional home ground, where the club have been based since 1898.
In addition to a brand new stadium, the complex will also feature a stand-alone indoor exhibition centre and arena with an all-seater capacity of 10,000 and a new naval diving and training facility.
The club believe the development could be completed in time for the 2010/11 football season.
And Portsmouth FC chief executive Peter Storrie describe the stadium as "perfection".
"The club will be playing a big part in the regeneration of the city and our fans will have the very best in terms of facilities and amenities as well as an excellent viewing experience," he continued.
"Portsmouth Football Club has moved into a new era with the backing of owner Alexandre Gaydamak and these are very exciting times for the club both on and off the field.
"The new stadium, along with plans for the club's new training ground at the Alver Valley in Gosport, are proof of where we want Pompey to be - playing at the highest level and in a stadium befitting a top Premier League side."
