Robbie Fowler quits Cardiff City to join Blackburn Rovers
Striker Robbie Fowler has quit Championship club Cardiff City after one season ahead of a proposed move to
Blackburn Rovers.
The former
Liverpool forward has been enticed to return to the Premier League with a move to Ewood Park, where former Reds team-mate Paul Ince is now manager.
Fowler, 33, is thought to have rejected a pay-as-you-play deal at Ninian Park, which was offered to him after he suffered an injury-hit first season with the Welsh club, choosing instead to sign a one-year deal with Rovers.
"Late on Thursday night Robbie Fowler informed us that he had been offered the opportunity to join Blackburn Rovers," a brief statement on the Cardiff City website reads.
"We fully understand that the lure of the Premier League was a major factor in his decision and we wish Robbie well in the future at his new club."
When he does finalise his move to Blackburn, the 26-cap former England international will be signing for his fourth Premier League club.
In addition to his years at Anfield, Fowler also played for Leeds United and
Manchester City.
