Emre will miss Turkey's game against Switzerland
Emre will miss Turkey's vital Euro 2008 match with co-hosts Switzerland after suffering a hamstring tear.
The midfielder's absence could be a big blow to Turkey as they look to overcome their opening day defeat to Portugal.
Emre is not only the captain of the side but also the creative spark and manager Fatih Terim believes his presence will be missed.
"Not having Emre is not just a question of having one player out and bringing another one in. The role he plays is not that simple," the manager explained.
He told the AFP that the midfielder was sent for a scan that "unfortunately" revealed he would not be able to play against the Swiss.
"We sent him for a scan and the result was a tear of three to four centimetres. We are not happy about this but there is nothing we can do about it," he added.
The news will also disappoint the midfielder who would have been hoping his displays would catch the attention of prospective coaches around the globe.
His current club Newcastle have indicated that he is surplus to requirements with Fenerbahce thought to be interested.
Reports earlier this week revealed that the Turkish side were in negotiations with Emre after Newcastle boss Kevin Kegan had given his consent over the deal.
