Real Madrid say they will wait for signal from Cristiano Ronaldo
Real Madrid have said they will wait for a signal from Cristiano Ronaldo that he wants to play at the Bernabeu before stepping up their pursuit.
Speculation about the Portuguese winger's future has reached fever pitch with no real indication of where he wishes to play next season.
While
Manchester United are adamant they will keep the 23-year-old at Old Trafford for the remainder of his contract, the La Liga side have been blatant in declaring their admiration for the young star, to the extent that the Premier League champions lodged an official complaint with Fifa.
But with the international professing that he will make they are happy to await his call.
"We are waiting for Ronaldo to say something, and as soon as he says he wants to play for Real Madrid, there will be conversations between the two clubs," Madrid official Angel Arroyo told the Spanish daily Marca.
"We would willingly reach an agreement with Manchester United if it is possible, if they want to sell and if the price was affordable."
Bernd Schuster, coach at the Bernabeu, added: "We are left hanging on a little because of what is happening in the European Championships.
"At the moment, there is a lot of speculation, but that is normal," he said while being interviewed on Cope radio station.
Ronaldo has been recalled to the Portuguese starting XI for Thursday night's quarter-final clash with Germany, having been rested for their final group game.
