West Ham consider Dyer bid

Sunday, 22 Jul 2007 11:28
Dyer's long spell at Newcastle could be over if West Ham table a bid
West Ham are considering making a move for Newcastle United winger Kieron Dyer after losing Frenchman Julien Faubert for six months.

Manager Alan Curbishley said that Dyer was a player he admired and would not rule out tabling an offer.

Faubert joined the Hammers from Bordeaux for £6.1 million but Curbishley now has to think of alternatives before the 23-year-old has even played a competitive game for the club after he ruptured his Achilles tendon in a pre-season friendly.

Curbishley told the Sunday Mirror: "Losing Faubert was a blow and now every time somebody goes down we are getting concerned because we are not having the best of luck.

"We have not made any contact with Newcastle and I understand Sam has said, 'There is no smoke without fire'.

"Perhaps he wants to leave. I would not rule out a move for him because I think he is a very exciting player."

Newcastle boss Sam Allardyce said he was expecting an approach from the Hammers but warned that he wanted to keep the England international.

"If we are going to hear from West Ham, I would assume it's going to be this weekend," said Allardyce.

"If we get a bid we will take it from there, but I'm not keen to lose Kieron."

Allardyce said it would take "a very sizeable offer" for him to even think about letting the 28-year-old leave St James' Park.

Dyer joined the Magpies from Ipswich Town in 1999 for a fee of £6 million. Since then he has made 190 appearances for the club scoring 23 goals.
