Grant gives press little to work with after Everton win

Avram Grant gives bizarre performance at Everton press conference
Chelsea manager Avram Grant provided little more than one-word answers in his post-match press conference following his side's 1-0 win at Everton.

The result keeps the Blues in with a chance of scooping an unlikely Premier League title this season, after Michael Essien's second goal in two games earned the visitors a vital victory on Merseyside.

But after the game, Grant appeared less than happy as he provided only the most basic of answers to straightforward questions from the gathered media at Goodison Park.

When asked if he thought his team were back in the race for the title, he replied: "Maybe not."

He also gave simple "yes" answers to questions about whether he was pleased with the result and the performance, and answered "I don't know" when asked what had pleased him most about the performance against the Toffees.

When pressed about his unenthusiastic responses Grant reacted with scorn, stating: "You can write what you want and I will answer how I want."

His uninspiring performance in front of the cameras, which left many of the journalists stunned, is believed to have been in protest at the coverage his team received following Monday's drab 1-1 draw at home to Wigan Athletic.

However, Grant flatly denied the suggestion he was unhappy about the Everton game being moved to a Thursday night slot for TV coverage.

Chelsea had lodged an official complaint with the Football Association over the fact they were required to play two games in the space of 72 hours to satisfy the schedulers, while title rivals Manchester United were given a full week's rest.
