Pascal Chimbonda has been forced to play across the back four because of Spurs' injury problems
Pascal Chimbonda will hold contract talks with Tottenham to fend off interest from other clubs, according to his agent.
The French full-back has yet to start talks over a contract extension with the Carling Cup winners.
He has been linked with a move to
Aston Villa while
Newcastle United made an offer to swoop for the 29-year-old in the January transfer window.
Chimbonda has been a regular at right-back and central defence in his second season at the north London club.
Chimbonda's agent, ex-French international Roger Boli, said the situation depends on Spurs' directors arranging talks.
"It's up to them to decide if they want to keep him or not. I'm optimistic on both options," Boli told Setanta Sports.
"The first one would be Pascal being offered a new deal and the second one would see him being transferred by Spurs.
"Newcastle's offer was serious, but they are in a bizarre situation and I don't know if Kevin Keegan will stay at the club next season."
Chimbonda joined Spurs from
Wigan Athletic for £4.5 million in 2006.
He made his 47th appearance of the season in yesterday's 2-0 win over
Portsmouth at White Hart Lane.
The defender is expected to start in Juande Ramos' side's clash away to
Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.
