Redknapp threatens to sack Pompey quartet for boozing

Harrry Redknapp wants to get rid of the four players before the start of next season
Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has revealed four of his squad could be sacked after their behaviour in the FA Cup celebrations.

Redknapp is furious with the post-match celebrations of four English youngsters, who did not feature in Pompey's 1-0 win over Cardiff City at Wembley.

The Portsmouth manager, who has refused to name the quartet, said their heavy drinking during the open bus parade was disgraceful.

"These four lads didn't play in the final, but they couldn't even put their beer down on the bus," Redknapp told the Mail on Sunday.

"We got back for the reception and the four of them just stood there until they were invited to go home.

"They're players at my club but they might not be for much longer."

Redknapp believes there is a cultural problem of English youngsters being less committed than foreign players.

"You get these 16-year-olds who think they have cracked it and aren't prepared to work and improve and put the hours in. You don't get that with the foreign lads," the ex-West Ham United boss added.

"I have gone up to youngsters in the morning after a big European match and asked a kid if he had watched it. Nine times out of ten he will say 'No'.

"I'll ask him 'Why? You should have been watching [Cristiano] Ronaldo or some other of the great players'.

"They want the money, they want the fame and I suppose they think it is simply going to happen for them. But it won't. What chance has a kid who is as disinterested as that got? None."End of story
