Kevin Davies could be out for rest of season with broken hand
Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies has admitted he fears he could miss the rest of the season after having an operation on his fractured hand.
The 31-year-old suffered the injury in the Trotters' vital 1-0 win over
West Ham United at the weekend, which put them in contention for survival in the Premier League.
He had initially thought the injury was a single fracture of his finger, however scans revealed he had suffered three individual breaks and would need an operation.
Davies said he had gone under the knife on Tuesday and was hopeful of returning in time to face
Sunderland and
Chelsea in the team's final two league games of the season as they look to overturn the two-point gap between themselves and safety.
"I've got three fractures and I had an operation on Tuesday," he said.
"Whether I've got a chance of getting back for the last two games is doubtful, but hopefully it heals quickly.
"I'll have it rescanned before we play Sunderland at home and maybe I could play with a cast on."
Davies picked up a yellow card against the Hammers - his tenth of the season - meaning he is unavailable for the next two matches away to
Middlesbrough and
Tottenham Hotspur.
Bolton are still capable of catching
Birmingham City in 17th place, who are on 31 points, and
Reading in 16th, who are on 32, with four games to go.
Gary Megson's men currently have 29 points from their 34 league matches so far.
