Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp is confident of wrapping up a deal which will take Jermain Defoe to Fratton Park.
Defoe's current club Tottenham have accepted a bid from Portsmouth for the England striker and the player has to now pass a medical and agree personal terms with Pompey.
Redknapp also revealed that Benjani Mwaruwari is also poised for a move to Manchester City, but will only move if Portsmouth complete the Defoe signing before the end of the transfer deadline.
"Hopefully it will be okay," Redknapp told Sky Sports. "He's [Defoe] arriving here any minute, so hopefully we can get something done.
"It's all ready to go. We've got to sort out a few bits with him and hopefully it will be sorted out tonight."
Redknapp added: "Jermain, I know, I think he's a top player, I really do. I signed him as a kid at West Ham, so I'm hoping to get a deal done.
"If we don't do a deal with Jermain then Benji won't go. Benji's done great for me, don't get me wrong, he's a good player."
Redknapp spotted Defoe as a 15-year-old and signed him for West Ham. But since leaving Upton Park for Tottenham, the 25-year-old striker has failed to keep a regular first team place at White Hart Lane.
