Jermain Defoe double secures England win over Trinidad and Tobago
Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe scored twice as England cantered to a comfortable 3-0 friendly victory over Trinidad and Tobago.
Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry had opened the scoring in the Caribbean after just 12 minutes before Defoe's first strike doubled England's lead four minutes later.
Barry met a clipped Wayne Bridge cross with a sweet left-foot volley from eight yards after good work down the left by Stewart Downing.
Defoe's goal came after Downing had played him in and despite taking a heavy second touch he was able to tuck the ball inside the far post.
The diminutive forward grabbed his second and the visitors' third just after half-time as he converted from close range, with the rest of the game resembling an end-of-season training run rather than an international friendly.
Substitute Theo Walcott had a chance to extend England's lead to 4-0 but shot straight at Trinidadian goalkeeper Clayton Ince late on.
The game was notable for the reappearance of Trinidad and Tobago legend Dwight Yorke, who came out of retirement to reap the applause in a cameo appearance in the carnival atmosphere at the Port of Spain ground.
Yorke's former
Manchester United colleague David Beckham also had reason for celebration as he took the captain's armband for the 59th time in his distinguished international career, which spans 102 appearances to date.
