Kieran Richardson has admitted he may quit Manchester United because of a lack of first-team chances.

The England winger has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford with Roy Keane's Sunderland reportedly leading the chase.

Richardson made 24 appearances for the Premiership champions last season but mostly as a substitute.

The 22-year-old said he had not ruled out a move away from United if he is not given assurances on his future.

"If you're getting older and not playing on a regular basis, you do have to think about moving on," Richardson told the News of The World.

"I've already said I want to carry on being a United player.

"I don't know about going out on loan because I've done that already."

Despite mostly being used as a substitute by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, Richardson made three appearances for Steve McClaren's England last season.

Richardson went on loan to West Bromwich Albion in 2005 and helped Bryan Robson's side miraculously survive in the Premiership on the final day of the season.

The midfielder rejected the chance to sign a permanent deal with Albion last summer to try and become a regular at United.

But Richardson has failed to challenge Ryan Giggs on the left wing and has been used as a makeshift left back.
