Manchester City begin summer clearout by releasing ten players, including Geovanni, Paul Dickov and Emile Mpenza
Printer friendly version
Manchester City
have begun their summer clearout in earnest by releasing ten players, including derby hero Geovanni.
The Brazilian forward, who scored the winning goal as City beat bitter rivals
Manchester United
last August, leaves Eastlands after his one-year deal expired.
Also heading to the City exit are veteran striker Paul Dickov and former Belgian international Emile Mpenza.
Geovanni, 27, who once cost Barcelona £14 million, is now being linked with a free transfer move to Premier League newcomers Hull.
Dickov, 35, is expected to sign a permanent deal with Championship outfit Blackpool, where he spent most of last season on loan, while 30-year-old striker Mpenza is reportedly attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.
Long-serving defender Sun Jihai has also not had his contract extended and has already signed for
Sheffield United
meanwhile.
Six other players have been released by new City boss Mark Hughes, including Irish defender Garry Breen and Italian striker Filippo Mancini son of former Inter Milan manager Roberto.
