Arsenal duo Diaby and Rosicky out for season

Friday, 25 Apr 2008 09:23
Arsenal's Abou Diaby ruled out for rest of season
Midfielders Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky have been ruled out for the remainder of Arsenal's Premier League season because of injury.

News of Rosicky's absence is not surprising, given that he has been out of action since January as a result of an ongoing hamstring problem that also threatens his participation in Euro 2008 with the Czech Republic.

However, Diaby has been told he faces an eight-week recovery period after suffering a ruptured tendon in his thigh while playing in a reserve match on Monday.

The Frenchman was also hoping to be selected for his country's Euro 2008 campaign, although this now appears to be a long shot for the 21-year-old.

"It looks like the season is over for Hleb, Rosicky and Diaby," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online.

"Hleb is suspended and I don't believe we'll see Tomas Rosicky again [this season].

"But we have lost Abou Diaby too. He was supposed to come back after suspension but he got an injury that will rule him out until the end of the season."

The absences of Diaby and Rosicky are a further blow to Arsene Wenger's plans for the final three matches of the season after fellow midfielder Alexander Hleb received a three-match suspension from the Football Association on Wednesday.

He pleaded guilty to violent conduct against Reading captain Graeme Murty during the Gunners' 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium last Saturday.End of story
