Brad Friedel linked with move away from Ewood Park
Blackburn Rovers have revealed a number of Premier League clubs are chasing veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel.

The 37-year-old shot-stopper has already been linked with moves to Aston Villa and Manchester City this summer.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill is keen on an experienced first-choice keeper to replace Scott Carson and is willing to pay £2.5 million for Friedel, according to reports.

New City boss Mark Hughes is keen on raiding his old club to land Friedel, who was one of his star performers during his tenure at Rovers.

Friedel has two years left on his contract and Rovers chairman John Williams says manager Paul Ince wants to keep him at Ewood Park.

"There is some interest, but Paul Ince's wish is to start the season with Brad Friedel," Williams told the Lancashire Telegraph.

Friedel has spent almost eight years at Ewood Park after joining from Liverpool, with reports claiming Villa and Manchester City will launch bids next week.

The American kept 13 clean sheets in all competitions last season.

Ince is already in a fight to keep winger David Bentley, who is keen to play Champions League football, and striker Roque Santa Cruz, who has been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United.End of story
