Cristiano Ronaldo meets with Manchester United club doctors over injured ankle
Manchester United have denied Cristiano Ronaldo is to undergo surgery on his right ankle.

Media reports on Thursday claimed the Portuguese winger would go under the knife over the weekend.

But a United spokesman reiterated that a decision was yet to be reached.

"Procedures are in place to seek specialist advice, in order to finalise the treatment plan as soon as possible," he told the club's official website.

Doctors from the club travelled to Lisbon on Wednesday to assess the fitness of Real Madrid target Ronaldo.

The meeting was the first between club officials and the forward since he expressed an interest in joining the Spanish giants.

An initial statement said: "Manchester United medical staff met with the medical team from the Portuguese FA and Cristiano Ronaldo in Lisbon today regarding the ongoing treatment of his injured right ankle.

"As a result, further specialist advice is being sought and an announcement will be made on any action in due course."

Ronaldo's future remains clouded in doubt with United insisting he is not for sale despite the 23-year-old saying he would welcome a move to the Bernabeu.

The Portuguese revealed after his country's Euro 2008 quarter-final exit at the hands of Germany he had been playing in the tournament with a foot injury.End of story
