Torres hopes to lift some silverware with Liverpool next season
Fernando Torres believes Liverpool can capture some silverware next season after finishing this campaign empty-handed.

The Spanish striker was speaking after breaking yet another record in his first year at Anfield. Torres scored the winner in the Reds' 1-0 win over Manchester City and beat Roger Hunt's record for goals in consecutive home league matches.

Torres has now scored 23 league goals and has netted 32 times in all competitions this season. Steven Gerrard is the only other Reds player to notch double-figures in league goals.

However, Torres claims that he is only able to achieve this success with the help of his team-mates.

"The first season is normally always difficult but it has been made easy for me by my team-mates. It's thanks to them that I can keep scoring and keep improving," he said.

Despite the club's continued success in the Champions League, reaching at least the semi-final stage for the third time in four years, Torres says the Reds must improve their league form next season.

He said: "We want to win trophies every season. Maybe next season - we will have to keep improving.

"For the fans the most important is the league because this club has gone too many years without it. Maybe next season. We are a strong team and we can win every game."

Liverpool are currently 11 points behind leaders Manchester United. However, they have lost fewer games than United this season and may not be far away from challenging for the title next season.End of story
