Scolari thinks Ronaldo should join Real Madrid
Portugal coach Luis Felipe Scolari has told
Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo not to pass up the opportunity to join Real Madrid.
Ronaldo has been at the centre of fevered speculation due to the repeated claims from the Spanish side that they wish to sign him.
United have tried to counteract that by threatening to report Real to Fifa because of their attempts to unsettle the player.
However, now the 23-year-old's national team coach has come out in support of Ronaldo moving on from United.
Scolari suggested that Ronaldo may never have the chance to join the Spanish giants again in his career and should therefore pursue the opportunity to play for Madrid.
The Brazilian warned Ronaldo he may regret it if he turns Real down, Scolari said: "I have told him that in football you cannot live on memories."
"You have to take the opportunities when they come along because they will not come again in your lifetime."
The winger supported Real when he was younger and has said he wants to play for them at some point in his career but until now has insisted his future remained with United.
Ronaldo is currently preparing for Euro 2008 with Portugal and Scolari is keen for his team-mates not to become to reliant on their star player.
Scolari insists it is not possible for Ronaldo to win the tournament on his own and that he must have support.
He added: "One player can't carry 20 others on his back, but 20 can carry one," he said. "We want 20 helping one, not one helping 20."
