Keegan fears power of top four clubs

Kevin Keegan expresses concern at domination of Premierships top four clubs
Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan has expressed concern at the domination of the Premier League's top four clubs.

For the third season running, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool will take the top spots in the league, with the rest of the clubs struggling to match their success.

Speaking after his side's 2-0 home defeat to Chelsea on Monday, Keegan said: "Maybe the owner thinks we can bridge that gap - but we can't.

"This league is in danger of becoming one of the most boring but great leagues in the world."

"The top four next year will be the same top four as this year," he added.

When Keegan took over from Sam Allardyce at St James' Park in January fans had hoped to see a return to the successful and entertaining football played at Newcastle during his first reign as manager.

However, Keegan said fifth place was the best the club could now hope for.

"What I can say to the Newcastle fans is that we will be trying to get fifth and we will be trying to win the other league that's going on within the Premier League," he said.

"I haven't got enough money and I wouldn't be able to get the players anyway (to do any better than that), so I will soldier on with what I've got and maybe add one or two, maybe three, depending what's available."

Newcastle currently lie 12th in the Premier League and will play Everton on the final day of the season.End of story
