Megson warns Diouf he will only be sold for big fee

El Hadji Diouf scored his sixth goal of the season yesterday
Bolton Wanderers boss Gary Megson has warned El Hadji Diouf that he will only be allowed to leave for a big fee.

The Senegal midfielder revealed yesterday he was leaving the Trotters in the summer after scoring the winner in the 1-0 victory over Sunderland.

Barring a freak set of results on the last day of the season, Diouf's goal looks to have preserved Bolton's Premier League status.

But Megson said he is desperate for the ex-Liverpool winger to stay at the Reebok Stadium.

"Myself and everybody else don't want Dioufy to go anywhere and that's still the case," Megson said.

"If Dioufy does go, it will take a large fee and it will have to be a big club that takes him because of the amount of money that we pay a talented lad like El Hadji,"

"He's got his faults but we'll wait and see what happens because nobody as yet has picked the phone up and said, 'we'll do this with Dioufy'.

"He's done OK since I've been manager but I don't want him to go anywhere and if he does then it will only be in the best interest of this football club. Nobody will able to nick him."

Diouf scored his first league goal since December when he smashed a shot into the corner against the Black Cats in the 42nd minute.

The 27-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Manchester City, still has a year left on his contract.

Diouf said after yesterday's game: "I'm definitely leaving. I love Bolton but I'm ready for a new challenge." End of story
