Benitez slaps £15m price-tag on wantaway Crouch

Despite his inability to break into the Liverpool first-team, Crouch has continued to be selected for England
Liverpool striker Peter Crouch may be allowed to leave the club this summer in order to seek regular first-team football elsewhere, according to manager Rafael Benitez.

The Spaniard has put a £15 million price-tag on the England international because he believes he still has something to offer the club.

However, Benitez admitted he understands Crouch's wish to leave as he has been forced to compete for a spot in the Reds' starting XI with record signing Fernando Torres, as well as Andriy Voronin and Dirk Kuyt.

"Crouch wants to play every week but knows he must fight it out with Fernando Torres," the Liverpool manager said.

"We keep seeing Portsmouth linked with the player but we have had no offer as yet.

"A £15 million price tag for Crouch would not be unreasonable."

Despite being used mainly as a bit-part player or an impact substitute this season, Crouch has continued to be selected for the England team.

However, he fears that if he continues to struggle for first-team action he will lose out under new England manager Fabio Capello.

The Italian has already made it clear he will be more selective than his predecessors Sven-Goran Eriksson and Steve McClaren when it comes to using form as the main basis for picking his squads.End of story
