Moyes furious with below-par performance against Fulham

Sunday, 16 Mar 2008 18:03
The defeat was the first for Everton in the league since December 29th
David Moyes admitted his side failed to create any real chances in their 1-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Moyes' sixth anniversary as Toffees boss failed to inspire his players, who went down to Brian McBride's goal on 67 minutes.

The result scuppers Everton's hopes of going level on points with fourth-placed Liverpool in the battle for the final Champions League spot.

Moyes, who began his reign in 2002 with a win against Fulham, said he was disappointed with his side's display.

"We didn't make many chances all day and that was the most disappointing thing," Moyes said.

"We did not play well at all. We have never been very good at Craven Cottage and this was the same.

"The players are a good group who have done well. We would have settled for where we are if we had been offered this at the start of the season."

The win for Fulham moves them three points from safety although they have played more games than rivals Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City.

Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson said he was delighted his side followed up last week's draw against Blackburn Rovers with a crucial win.

"It was a very good performance. We can look forward to the last eight games with optimism," Hodgson said.

"We started extremely brightly but Everton know how to defend and grind out results.

"The goal was vital. For us the difference between one and three points in the match was everything." End of story
