Graeme Souness has revealed he has held talks about becoming the next Scotland manager.

Reports last week claimed the former Newcastle United boss had pulled out of the race to succeed Alex McLeish.

But Souness, who has been out of football management for two years, said he is keen on the Scotland job.

"I have been interviewed," Souness told the Scottish Mail on Sunday.

"It was conducted in a very professional manner and I want the job."

Souness, 54, is battling with Mark McGhee, George Burley, and Tommy Burns for the post.

McGhee and Burley have also been interviewed by the Scottish Football Association, but ex-Celtic boss Burns is thought to be reluctant to face an interview.

Former Derby manager Billy Davies has ruled himself out of managing Scotland, but is interested in becoming the new Republic of Ireland boss.

"Scotland appointed an under-21 manager before the national job was filled suggesting to me that the new manager wouldn't have any input at lower levels," Davies told the Scottish News of the World.

"That's not how I see the job so I respectfully withdrew my name from consideration.

"People might say 'He's not willing to speak to the SFA but he speaks to Ireland'.

"However, the Irish don't know anything about me so I can understand them wanting to speak to me face to face. Gordon Smith and everybody else in Scotland knows me."End of story
